How we talk about stammering matters
The British Stammering Association has a fantastic new media campaign that is working with wikipedia to change the way we construe and talk about people who stammer and stammering. They are removing the negative language associated with stammering, such as it being ‘an affliction’ or something to ‘get rid of’.
I was made aware of this campaign on my way to work last week when I noticed an advert in a national railway station.
Check out the campaign and see if it starts to change the way you think about stammering. Start being conscious of your bias around stammering and the way you talk and think about it…… see what happens.
